Ode to the In-Laws

Dear "Mom" and "Dad" (aka Patty and Jerry),

So I just got home from dinner with you two and I am reminded of how blessed I am to have married into your family. I mean, obviously you two must not be too uncool, because you raised the coolest boy in the world ever. But you're not just not uncool, you're super awesome!

Jerry, you are one of the warmest, kindest, most encouraging men I've ever met. As a preacher you are an example to many folks, and a good one at that. When we crash at your house, I enjoy your early-morning humming, your buttery biscuits made from scratch, your questions about our business, your affection with your grandkids, your ever-positive attitude, and your compliments. Your work ethic is exemplary. You love your wife easily and generously. And you officiated Brent and mine's wedding ceremony, so that means a lot to me also.

Patty, I consider you a friend and I'm thrilled to have you in my life. I love bouncing ideas around with you, trouble-shooting, planning...all those things ladies like to do together but the guys find tedious. (You know, like mentally remodeling my kitchen to optimize efficiency and streamline workflow.) I enjoy shopping with you, watching HGTV with you, and looking at your latest painting. And you're such a good gift-giver (I'm wearing the brown robe right now as I write- and I will wear it to bed, and I will work in it tomorrow). You care deeply for your children, and it shows.

I know you two read this blog, so I hope you find this and take pleasure in the knowledge that your daughter-in-law is happy that you two are the parents of her husband.

Much Love,
Mrs. McKellar
