Weddingbee Buzz

If you're one of my loyal readers you know that I link and refer to Weddingbee quite often. I even wrote an entire post about it two years ago. Weddingbee is a blog with multiple soon-to-be-wed (or just-wed) contributers, and as of August it was the most visited wedding planning blog on the internet. I followed it loyally and over time sort of got to know the different bride bloggers. In the past year or so I've had to gradually wean myself off of checking it every day because it can be so time consuming. But now I have a new reason to check it out: I'm videotaping the wedding of one of the bloggers- Miss Frozen Yogurt!

A friend of Brooke and Matt's told Miss Fro Yo about us recently and she was able to work us into her budget. I'm so happy she did and I know she will be too! To be a Weddingbee blogger you have to be quite the savvy bride, and for her to appreciate our work is such a compliment. She blogged about us last week and showed Erika and Phil's Super 8 trailer. (She loves Super 8 and will be getting some of it in her video; it's a perfect match for her modern/vintage theme.)

Miss Frozen Yogurt is getting married at a beautiful location in Dallas this spring and we can't wait to be there to capture it all on film!

Shannon & Blake Highlights

You may recognize Shannon from another one of our videos- she caught the bouquet at Laura and Greg's wedding! It must have worked because a few years later we found ourselves in Dallas filming Shannon's nuptuals with her longtime boyfriend Blake.

This wedding was fun to document and edit because there was just so much excitement and energy. On her Facebook profile Shannon said that she "loves to laugh" so I was sure to include some of the funny moments of the day. This bride has a great sense of humor and she had me chuckling all during the editing. The little boys were hilarious too; Brent asked them if they wanted to do something special for the video so they choreographed this little rap dance routine, part of which you'll see in the highlights. Every time we see it we crack up. And the dancing at the reception was hilarious too! I didn't have time to show it all in the highlights, but there were some folks there who knew how to cut a rug! (And allow me to point out how lovely the lighting is for the reception. Doesn't it add so much to the imagery?)

Thanks Shannon and Blake for inviting us to document your big day!

Shannon said, "OH MY GOODNESS!!! Vanessa I loooove our video! Everything turned out so beautifully. I cried through the whole thing. Thank you so much for your hard work. Thank you for capturing our special so perfectly. I only wished the dvd would just keep going and going. I can't wait to share this with my family. Seeing the video really and truly brought me right back to June 6th!! Thank you so much! I appreciate your generosity! God has given you such a gift. I am so happy!! Thank you again! It was perfect! Brooke & Matt's Trailer

What a blast this wedding was! The events took place in Fort Worth, with the reception downtown on the rooftop of the Reata. I loved the theme of the wedding, sort of cowboy meets preppy. The adorable dresses were from J Crew, and they had pockets in them, even the bride's. Brooke looked totally classic and timeless. Her dress and accessories and hairdo were clean and simple, and it all made a great backdrop for her striking beauty. For the reception, everyone changed into cowboy boots and the girls donned these super cute chunky necklaces.

I enjoyed filming this wedding partly because Brooke is one of those brides that just "gets" video. She was so excited to have me there documenting everything, and that only made me more excited. And Matt, he's such a softie. It seemed like every time I looked at him he had tears in his eyes. What a sweetie!

Another thing I liked about this wedding was the band. They didn't have just any wedding band, they had a personal concert by cult favorite Max Stalling, a great musician who also happens to be their family friend. Max has great charisma and sweetness, and no cheese whatsoever. People were singing along to his songs all night and having a grand old time, despite the rain that tried to put a damper on things.

Check out their "urban cowboy" trailer that we just finished editing:

Brooke said, "I love it!!! Love it times infinity plus one! It really captured how much FUN we were all having. Thanks so much to you and Brent for working your butts of to get the trailer to us so quickly...can't wait for the rest. Super great song by the way! I had never heard of the band but I think I have become a Magnetic Zero fan :-) "

Our Wedding: The Dress

If you've been reading my blog for a long time, you know that I purchased my wedding dress on eBay for $400. It was a European couture gown by Harriet de Prag, and the original price was $3,517.00. Pretty cool huh? I even took a day to officially dress shop with my mom and girlfriends, and we all loved my lil' old dress the most.

In this post, I want to talk about ways that I customized my dress and made it my own. For a $400 gown that you purchase sight-unseen on the internet, you're not likely to get everything you want. First off, I had to get it altered. While it did fit surprisingly well, it had to be taken in in some parts. After I had my bridal photo session (which you will see here later), I realized that it was too short in the front. While that's a pretty tricky problem to fix, I was fortunate that the dress came with an assymetrical one-sleeved lace jacket. So I took that to the tailor and had them sew some of that lace onto the bottom front hem of the dress, and presto!- perfect length.

The next thing I did to my dress was blingify it, in keeping with my crystal theme. I bought dozens and dozens of tiny clear Swarovsky crystals online and had my seamstress hand sew each one onto the lace of my bodice and the hem. It was very subtle, but I'm glad I did it. I had to sparkle on my wedding day!

Granted, there were a few drawbacks to buying a floor sample dress. Some of the lace was a little worn, and I didn't have the benefit of in-house bridal boutique alterations. Probably the worst part was the big black mark that was on my train. I tried to get it off, but I couldn't, so I forgot about it. But I love this picture. It shows Mary and Erika on the wedding day fervently trying to remove the mark while I was out of the room. I think it's so sweet that they cared more about it than I did!
